How to Download Webex Records

Everything you need to know about downloading Webex tapes.

Video conferencing applications such as Webex have made recording meetings extremely easy. Whether you want to refer back to them at a later time, share them with someone who was unable to attend, or share them as training materials, they have proven their usefulness.

Webex users, too, can record their meetings, events and training sessions. Webex allows users to record meetings either locally on their computers or the cloud. Now, the meetings you save on your computer are easily accessible. You just need to go to the default location where Webex stores recordings – usually the Downloads or Documents folder.

But cloud recording is different. And if you don’t know how to use Webex, it may not be clear how to access it. But don’t worry, it’s as easy to access as your local record.

Webex Free users cannot record meetings in the cloud. The only option available to them was to record locally on their computer.

Downloading Webex Records When You Host

Meeting organizers can easily access and download their Webex recordings from the web portal for Webex. Go to and enter your meeting room.

Then go to ‘Recordings’ from the navigation menu on the left.

All of your recordings will appear on the ‘Meeting My Recordings’ page. Open the recording you want, and click the ‘Download’ button to download the recording on your computer. If a disclaimer from Webex appears, click on the ‘Accept’ button to continue the download.

Most of the newer recordings are in the MP4 format. But if it’s an ARF file type, you’ll need a Webex Network Recording Player to view it.

Downloading Webex Records When You Are Not Hosted

In a Webex meeting, only the host or alternative host can record the meeting. And meeting recordings are only available in the ‘Recordings’ section of the host in their meeting room. Even if you are the alternate host and started recording, you will not have direct access to this recording. So how do other meeting attendees, or even alternative hosts, access and download these meeting recordings? By asking your host to share it with you.

The meeting organizer can share the recording link with anyone, whether they are present at the meeting or not. Ask the organizer to share a link to the recording with you. Once you receive the link, click on it. The player view will open. You can stream it and watch it as it is. Or click the download button in the player to download the video to your computer. Webex also includes instructions for automatically downloading recordings in the email you receive from the host.

Many of you may be thinking, why should you download meeting recordings when you can stream and play them online. Simple answer – Storage. There is limited storage available on the cloud to store your recordings. So, sooner or later, you will run out of space. And if you record often enough, it will take place sooner rather than later.

The best option in this scenario is to download the recordings to your computer from the cloud. So even if you’re running out of space, you can download the old footage you still need and then delete it from the server to make room for the new one.
