Discord application has become very popular among gamers so there is no need for introductions. With millions of users worldwide, Discord stands out as one of the best platforms for audio, video, image and text communication between users.
It is well known that Discord can be installed on PCs and various other platforms. But can it be used on PS4 consoles too? This article will help you set up your PlayStation 4 so you can talk with your friends on Discord while playing your favorite games on this console.
Using Discord on PlayStation 4
Unfortunately, the Discord application does not currently support the PlayStation 4 console. But from the looks of it, things can change faster than later.
Discordians all over the world have sent requests and opened dozens of topics on the official Discord Support page, asking developers to create a version of the PS4 application. Because Discord pays attention to community requests and complaints, we were able to get the official Discord application for PlayStation 4 and many other consoles.
Does that mean you have to wait for the application to be released in order to use Discord on PS4? Really not.
There are still ways to use Disputes on your PlayStation 4, provided you have all the necessary equipment. This can take longer to set up, but it will be worth it.
So, if you want to follow the tutorial below, you need to buy a headset that has an optical cable and supports USB connection. You also need MixAmp or similar device to switch audio between your PC and PS4. For example, you can use the A40 TR headset with MixAmp PRO TR because it proves to be a good combination for this type of setting.
In addition to the two items and accompanying cables (3.5mm Male to Male, 3.5mm Aux Splitter, 3.5mm to 3.5mm with Volume), everything you need to install Discord on your PC.
After you get all the items needed, it’s time to arrange everything. Let’s start by connecting your PS4 console with your MixAmp. This is all you need to do.
For starters, go ahead and turn on your PlayStation 4 console. Connect one side of the optical cable to your PlayStation 4, and the other to the back of your MixAmp. You must ensure that your MixAmp is set to Console mode. If you have successfully connected everything, your headset will be designated as a USB device. You will see a message on the screen to let you know about this.
When finished, navigate to your PlayStation 4 Settings and follow these steps:
Scroll down and select the ‘Sound and Screen’ option.
Select Audio Output Settings.
Select the Digital Output Port and change it to Optical.
It is recommended that you choose the Dolby 5.1 channel.
Select Audio Format and select Bitstream (Dolby).
Return to the initial ‘Settings’ screen and select Device. Open Audio Device. Make sure the Output to Headphones is set to Audio Chat.
Now, it’s time to connect everything to your PC. Turn on your computer. Connect one side of your USB cable to your MixAmp, and the other to your PC. Make sure your MixAmp is now in PC Mode.
Open the Discord Apps on your computer. Navigate to Settings.
Select the Sound & Video option.
In the Input Devices section, select the headset that you are using.
Leave the Output Device set to Default.
Click Finish to finish. You can now talk freely through Discord and use your PlayStation 4 audio simultaneously.
What to do if it still doesn’t work
It’s impossible for you to hear other audio playing on your computer. This is because your PlayStation 4 takes the main audio source on your MixAmp. Fortunately, there is an easy fix for this problem.
All you need to do is plug your 3.5 to 3.5mm cable into the Speaker port on your PC and to the AUX port on your MixAmp. Change the Output Device from step number 7 to Speaker, and the voila problem is resolved.
Chat Disputes While Enjoying Your Favorite PlayStation 4 Game
With these steps, you can play your favorite PlayStation 4 game while using Discord simultaneously. The settings might take a little longer, but it will be worth it.
This method will suffice until the official version of PlayStation 4 application comes alive.
