How to Set Up and Install an Ecobee Smart Camera

You might know the best ecobee for incredible smart thermostats, but the company has now entered the home security room with the ecobee SmartCamera. This compact security camera provides 1080p resolution and a 180 degree field of view with digital pan and zoom capabilities.

The camera has a built-in Alexa, which means you can use it as an Echo to activate your lights, check the weather, and access Alexa Skills. Ecobee designed the SmartCamera for easy setup and installation, but you might still experience some problems along the way.

First, Make Sure the Camera Uses Factory Default Settings

If you have already tried installing SmartCamera but were unsuccessful, you must reset the device before other attempts. To do this, press and hold the “Mute” button and the “Microphone” button above the SmartCamera. After a few seconds, a sound will warn you that the reset process has begun.

The assistant will go through each reset option individually. When the assistant asks if you want to reset SmartCamera to factory settings, tap the “Microphone” button. If your input is received, you will hear a bell. It may take several attempts, because the camera does not read the button, tap each time during the test.

After resetting the device to factory settings, you can start the settings.

How to set up an ecobee SmartCamera

To start the setup process, open the ecobee application, and tap the green “+” symbol on the top right of the screen.

The next screen will ask what products you add to your home. Tap “Camera.”

You will then be asked to make sure your camera is ready to connect. If the headlight on the front of the SmartCamera ecobee glows yellow, fine. If the color is different, don’t worry. However, the camera will likely complete the setup process. Tap “Good to go!” at the base.

It may take several seconds for your device to appear. After that, choose from the list.

When you tap the name of your camera, you will be given the option to install it via HomeKit or another method. If you set up via HomeKit, you need to scan the code on the back of the camera itself. However, during testing, HomeKit settings did not work. The second method is used instead.

In this case, select the Wi-Fi network that you want to use to manage the device. Enter your Wi-Fi password when prompted.

After the settings are finished, you will be asked to name the camera from the list. This is so you can easily identify it and give voice commands. This list includes all rooms and standard locations in the house.

When this step is complete, your camera will be active and operational – but you will be asked to activate a few more settings to provide more comprehensive functionality. The first is Window Mode, a feature that digitally reduces glare and reflection so your camera can see more clearly through glass. Of course, this feature is only needed if the camera is directed through the window.

Next is Autopilot, a feature that automatically turns off recordings when you are at home and reactivates them when you leave. If you are worried about privacy and do not want the camera to record you, this feature is worth activating.

After this is the presence of Wi-Fi, which helps make the Autopilot feature more accurate. Enabling the presence of Wi-Fi increases the reliability of automation regulated through the ecobee SmartCamera.

You will also be asked to turn on notifications. If you use SmartCamera as a home security system, turn on notifications or you will not be notified of the movements taken by the device.

Depending on your camera, you might be asked to update the firmware. This process only takes a few minutes and will help the camera operate better.

How to Install Your SmartCamera Ecobee

Ecobee SmartCamera is easy to install and does not require special equipment. In fact, you can attach it to the wall using only a screwdriver if you are dedicated, but the drill will make the job easier. There are two areas behind the camera body where the stand is attached: one behind and one below.

Both attachment points have a solid adjustment range to tilt the camera. Select the attachment point that suits your needs and then press the camera base to the camera body. It will lock in place.

Next, select the area that you want to mount it. The bottom of the base has a keyhole. Give yourself enough room on the wall to sink in the screw until about 1/8 inch out of the wall. You can then mount the camera base securely on the wall, using screws and mounting a keyhole.

After you install your camera, open the Ecobee application and make sure everything is functioning correctly. This application allows you to shift and enlarge the camera digitally, so you can monitor exactly where you want it to be.

If you subscribe to the Ecobee subscription service ($ 5 per month for one camera), you will receive more features than you might have, including the ability to take photos and record recordings at will.
