How to voice chat among Us

If you want the best experience playing the multiplayer game Among Us, you’ll need to organize voice chat with your players – here’s what you need to know.

Without a doubt, the best way to play the popular multiplayer game Among Us is with friends on voice chat. You can convey information a lot faster, and of course you get the bonus of seeing how people lie when they don’t have a keyboard safety net behind them.

But how do you organize voice chat alongside the Among Us game? We’ve put together everything you need to know, along with some additional tips. If you’re new to the game, you can also check out how to download Among Us for free, and see if Among Us will be available on PS4, Xbox, and Switch.

How to start a group chat on Among Us

The first thing you need to be aware of is that Among Us doesn’t have a built-in voice chat system yet. There are text chat rooms accessible throughout the game, but they are all on offer at the time of writing.

If you want to voice chat with other players, you will need to make a third party audio call. You can use whatever works best for you and your friends – Discord, Google Meet, Messenger, WhatsApp, or even Skype. If you are using a PC, you can do this by simply opening it in the browser and running it alongside the game. On mobile devices, the app version should work well with Among Us.

If you’re playing on a PC, we recommend changing Between Us to windowed rather than full screen to make switching between the two easier – this can be done by opening the game, going to settings (clicking on the wheel icon – the second one at the bottom of the screen), then selecting a graphic and change full screen to ‘off’.

Everyone will need open software on their PC / phone, and a microphone that works no matter what they’re using. We recommend using headphones to avoid in-game sound effects being picked up through the microphone.

If you are playing with strangers from online groups such as the Among Us Discord servers, we recommend sticking with Discord for your voice chat as you can easily use a pseudonym and don’t have to provide any personal information like your email. address, full name or telephone number. Or, stick to the built-in text chat if you want to be extra careful.

If you’re game streaming on Twitch, make sure your audio calls are picked up at our sound output settings, and make sure you balance microphone levels, called players, and in-game / music sound effects.

Finally – and most importantly – familiarize yourself with silencing yourself when you’re not on the elimination section of the game! You don’t want to accidentally break the game (something this writer has done in the past), so click the mute button on the calling software you’re using, or manually mute the microphone if you can.
